My 2-year-old golden Retriever is passing whata ppears to be water and cannot seem to control it. It has happened twice in the last week. She is fully house-trained and does not have accidents. The fluid is clear and definitely seems to come from her anus.

Reply to Gina's Post: It really does not smell. It has only happened a few times at I have cleaned it up with paper towels. It is like water. I have found it both times in small puddles on the floor and the fur around the base of her tail is wet. It is not leaking. It all comes out at once. Thanks for the help. steve

Reply to Gina's Post: She does not seem to clean the area any more than ususal. She also does not seem to be aware of this happening. There is no inflammation. Her stools are normal which is really confusing. When it happened the first time(about a week ago) I chalked it up to something she ate. Her diet has not changed at all. She eats IAMs large breed dog food, the occasional rawhide and gets plenty of fresh water.

Hi Steve: Thanks for being patient with the questions. I really appreciate it. I believe your girl has impacted anal glands. This can cause a secreation from the area like what you are seeing. Go ahead and give your vet a call tomorrow to have her anal glands expressed. Have your vet give you a demonstration so if she has this problem again in the future, you can express them yourself. You can add some fiber to her diet to help so they won't get impacted again or as often by adding a teaspoon of canned pumpkin or canned sweet potato to her meals. :) Good luck and hope this helps your girl :)
