My 3 year old Cockapoo's penis is sticking out (very far out). He is fixed. He just stands there and it takes a while for him to get it back in. We've only had him for about 6 months and it has happened twice. The last time it happened, I took him to the vet and he had a fever. He had been acting funny the night before and threw up also. They said don't worry and gave him a shot of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory, but now that it has happened again, I am worried. Isn't it also weird that he had a fever with the last episode? My vet wasn't much help or very understanding to my worries. Please help.

Optional Information:
Age: 3; Male; Breed: cockapoo

REPLIED Check Mark

This can be serious if it stays out of its sheath for any length of time. Sometimes it will only happen once and then never again- which is why your vet was not concerned. Now that it has happened again it needs to be re-addressed with the vet. If he is still unconcerned then find another vet for a second opinion. They may need to put him on something to relax him. He also needs his prostrate checked if they did not do that then. Fever is not normally caused by this so I am not sure what is going on with that.

I am happy with your answer, so I will accept it, so don't worry.

But I'm curios if you have any idea why this is happening, or what might be causing it.

I will definitely take him back to the vet though. I will have them check his prostate like you suggested, and also have them give him something to relax him, because he is very squeemish and likes to bite when scared.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

It normally is caused when the dog gets excited (sexually). Do you have any other dogs? May be a female in heat? Or even a female close by in the neighborhood in heat? I know he has ben neutered by this can still happen for excitement reasons. There is a medical term for it, which slips my mind right now. I will try to find it though and get back to you with more info. I have searched for hous and even had another expert help me look for the term. We both know it, but cannot think of it- OR find it.
