My two year old toy poodle has not eaten anything for the past two days. I changed his food about a month ago and he tolerated it very well. But now he refuses to eat it, I tried to give him the food we were using before, but he still will not eat. What should I do?

Does he seem to feel bad? You can take his temperature rectally, with a human thermometer- normal for a resting dog is 101-102. Any vomiting, diarrhea or lethargy? Dogs can go several days without eating with no problems (unlike cats) so I would not be too concerned just yet unless he is showing other signs. If he continues to not eat or he shows any of the above symptoms then a vet check would be a good idea. Is he drinking? Maybe mix a little broth in with it and see if that entices him. If so, then he is probably just being picky and you can hold out a little longer.

Thanks for replying so quickly. He has been vomitting a little, but no more than usual. He usually vomits a little after he eats.

That is not normal in itself. Have you ever had your vet address this? Does he gulp his food when he does eat? This is more common in large breeds though. I think I would have him seen before the weekend and have your vet address the vomiting issue also. He may need something for gastric reflux maybe. Whatever has been causing his small bouts of vomiting may have gotten worse thus causing him to not want to eat now.
