Our Vet prescribed Rimadyl for apparent arthritis in his front legs. At $90/month, it's pricey. Does Aspirin or Aleve etc. work as well or other less expensive meds?

Rimadyl is referred to by some pet owners as the "wonder drug" Most respond to it better than buffered aspirin. Another thing to consider using in conjuction with the Rimadyl, is Cosequin. It is a glucosamine supplement and works well while used with Rimadyl
There are other anti-inflammatory medications out there such as prvicox and deramax, which may be cheaper, you would have to ask your vet about pricing and if he would suggest those.
You can try some online pharmacies such as Dr Foster and Smith, or PetScriptions to see if they offer the medication at a cheaper price. Let me know if I can help you further.
By the way, Hills makes a prescription food called J/D for helping dogs with arthritis. In our clinic, we have been able to reduce some pet's Rimadyl intake since starting on the prescription food.
