I have a 15 year old horse morgan, for over a week now he shows signs of being colic, but the glands in his throat are swelled up,very stiff in the hind qaurters, weak, kicks towards the ab, puffy over the eyes. He is having some bowell movement, hard balls. I have been giving mineral oil in his food, rolled oats, and a little sweet feed. I have yet to see him urinate, I know he is taking in some water, but not enough, I believe he is having aa hard time swallowing, he will graze on grass, he want to lay down, but is not rolling. temp was 100.1F I don't know what esle to do, I was giving him Procaine G antibotic IM 20 CC onece a day for 3 days. Thought it was viral to to the glands swollen.
I don't know if I should try and tube him and put mineral oil in the stomach< A little scared to seen it done never done it. Big problem there is no large animal vet around here. Any suggestions? My name is Customer (name blocked for privacy) e-mail carie.luzier@us.army.mil

Hi Carie! If you haven't done it, and he puts up a fight, you can tear him up and hurt him. Tubing thru the nostril to the stomach is not for first timers flying by their pants. Your horse has colic and needs help now. I can't tell you on line how to do it. And I can't even pretend to feel comfortable to do so. What you can do, is call any Vet in the area, they have access to other Vets on line or phone! Ask them to please call someone you can talk to or will overnight meds to you. Explain that the meds are critical and your horse could go down. Don't minimize this. Where is your supply house? They all carry under the counter colic meds! Call them, explain you are desperate and need help. Ask them for someone local that could help you. You would be surprised who you might find. Try that that and if you have any other questins, don't close this one and I will continue to try and help you.

Reply to Marie's Post: You have told me nothing that I already don't know. I thought you were a vet. I have already done meds with this horse, given to me by a vet who used to do large animals. This is not my first time taking care of horses or breaking them,I have probably as much experience as you do,if not more, as I said I know the dangers of tubing a horse and I a last resort may have too, which I am not comfortable whith either.   I would not be on line for information if I had a Large animal vet available
