Hi! Please rest him. If you don't, if he really goes from strain to a major pull, he could really have some problems!! Get him off the pitches of the hills and valleys, that doesn't do any horse any good and especially with a rider on their backs. My guess is has done the equivalent of when you step down wrong and pull the ligament from the side of the foot to under the ankle. Cool it down with water and if you can, take any product like bio-freeze, and apply that, you could lightly wrap him, just to give him support and feel better. The other thing you can do, is buy those disposable cold packs and use one of those for 10-20 minutes. YOu can even put a wrap around it to hold it in place. But no more than 20 minutes. And NOT extreme cold. No heat, but I'm sure you know that. That would cause a huge problem. The cold will give him relief and you could see the scope of the problem in a day or two. I think that is all your Vet would tell you. This is just a waiting game now. Good luck!! I'm sure he will be fine since you got right on top of it.
