My 10 year old boxer has a huge hematoma in her ear, she shook her ear against the table and broke open the blood vessels. I worked for a vet for a long time and remember draining these, but she is old and we dont want to stress her, nor do we really have the extra money. Is there anything we can do to help it go away on its own? Or does it have to be drained?

Optional Information:
Age: 10; Female; Breed: boxer

It will eventually go away on its own but the ear will crumple.
You need to treat the underlying condition that caused her to traumatize the ear too - mites, ear infection, fly bites etc.
You can use a teat canula to drain it if you want to try that at home.
Taping the ear to the other ear up over her head can help keep her from causing more bleeding in the flap.

Hope this helps you!
