My two year old spayed female37 lb rat terrier had an immediate sudden change, she went from normal to having her inner eyelid partially come across her eyes and couldn't balance or walk correctly (kind of like she was drunk). She did not have access to any medications, chemicals or automotive products and the only thing she ingested was about a teaspoon of peanut butter (which she has had several times with no reaction). I took her to our vet and she couldn't find anything wrong with her upon a simple examination, do you have any suggestions as to what may have happened or what we should do now. She is current on all her vaccinations and is a totally active normal dog other than this. She seems fine now (12 hours after the event). Thanks for your help!

She may have had a slight seizure...this is something that wouldn't show much on bloodwork. I would watch her carefully incase she should have more. There are a few things that can cause it an one is hypoglycemia or low blood sugar... another is toxin ingestion and third would be a tumor. The first 2 sound less likely since you are sure she didn't ingest something and she did eat prior to this happening. Keeping a close eye on her and if she does have another, videotape her actions so your vet can see exactly what she is doing when it happens...this will help with diagnosing the problem.
