Possible ear infection in Lab
Sent to Pet Experts April 29 10:41 AM

My two yr old female lab's right ear is swollen on the in side with knobs scattered through out the inner ear. she is shaking her head frequently. the left ear is fine. this happend over night. SHe had a bad ear infection last year and had to have them flushed. My vet and others are closed today due to national rodeo in town. I have some salve or cort aid for dogs and a prescription bactoderm salve and have rubbed it on the ear and seems to have helped. This is different than the ear infection from last yr. Its not black on the inside, its just swollen shut with alot of these protruding knogles and its pinkish from her scractching it. I also gave her a amoxocillian to help. Will she be ok to wait and take Monday morning. This just occurred in the last three hours of the night. Also in the last 3 or 4 days she has been steadily licking her paws which my vet said could be alergiers but she also did this when she had the ear infection last year.

Optional Information:
Age: 2; Female; Breed: black lab

Already Tried:
I put some hydrocort aid for dogs in the ear and I had a precription left of bactoderm that was used for the ear infection last year on it and a 500 mg amoxicillian capsule she had left over.

She should be ok as long as you can keep her from scratching. You can try placing an elizabethian collar on to help...you can get one at a petsmart or make one from cardboard and attach it to her collar...If you don't know what one is, its the thing that looks like a dish that goes on their neck to prevent them from licking the back half of the body or scratching the head. I wouldn't use any other meds aside from what was used on her ear last year. Keeping it clean and dry will help tremendously then get her in on Monday.
