My 9 month of mixed female lab has a right hip
Sent to Pet Experts April 25 10:15 AM

My 9 month of mixed female lab has a right hip dysplasia. The vet said we would have to wait till she is 24 months old for a total hip replacement. My question is, why would you not try now to place the femur back into hip socket and imbolize it to see if it will grow normally? Can't they pop the femur into the hip and stablize it while she is still growing? Thanks Nancy Stoop, West Virginia

The problem is with hip dysplasia neither the socket nor the femur head are shaped correctly.
There really isn't any way to immobilize that joint either.
You may find this article interesting as it lists a much younger age for doing the hip replacement and it also suggests accupuncture can help

Yes that happens too. If she had an accident or if someone pulled her from the birth canal the hip may have been dislocated.
If the head and socket looked OK it might be possible to do what you suggest. See if this site is closer to what you are seeing

If you have not seen an orthopedic surgeon with her you might want to do that.

Reply to Nancy Holmes's Post: Yes that looks more like her xray, I am a nurse but orthopedics is not my specialty. Thank you very much. Nancy Stoop
