Today my 12 year old male tabby vomited quite a few times and has diarrhea. I noticed a little hair in the vomit but upon cleaning the litter box I noticed much hair mixed in with the watery feces. His vet is not in today - is this an urgent matter?

Optional Information:
Age: 12; Male; Breed: tabby cat

You might want to see if some hairball remedy like Petromalt or Laxatone will make him feel better. Helping him remove his dead fur by some brushing over the next few days might help too.
If that doesn't help him or if he gets sicker then I'd see the vet but it all might just be an accumulation of hairball material.
Hope this helps you!

Reply to Nancy Holmes's Post: So it is normal for him to "poop" it out? I have never encountered this before.

If there is a lot of hair accumulated it will show in stool and in vomiting of hairballs.
He may be shedding a bit more due to his age. I use a softe gentle slicker brush for cats to help them get rid of the fur. My cats like being brushed and I prefer cleaning the hair up that way than off the floor!
