Hi! This can be a tough one to call. A bowed tendon is a real serious problem if this is on going. By your letter your saying this has happened before, therefore the tendon will probably never go back to the way it was originally. What has happened is the strength and shape of the tendon has changed. And sometimes, and its hard to tell, if it will ever heal completely. (You might want to speak to you farrier about his shoes, and the pitch of his toes, that may or may not be of any help) The problem with electric shock is the theory. It is suppose to speed up the healing by stimulation. If the horse is not completely rested and stall bound, it may not work. If the horse gets bored and starts to stall walk, for hours at a time, the treatment may not work as well. The other thing is finding a Vet that knows how to do it right. In theory you want to be sure to know the trigger points to get the best use from it. Also, the horse should be on supplements to promote a solid healing. I always jump them up on vitamins and E and antioxidants. GP Direct makes some great products and their cost is very reasonable. In fact if you call them, they have someone that can give you Expert advise on what supplements are best. I would carefully talk to who ever is training your horse and ask them honestly how much success they have had with using either electric shock or ultra sound. I have had trainers tell me that ultrasound with topical cortisone cream has helped them, but it is VERY expensive and only the top barns have this equipment and I am not familiar with it on my own. I wish you the best of luck and I hoped this helped!
