Sent to Pet Experts April 19 01:06 PM

My little female Panda Bear hamster(SugarBoo-approx 3-4 mo. old) has a large, quarter-size, swollen place approx. 1/2" in depth out from her body that looks as tho it starts in the lower portion of her right pouch and extends down into her right right jowl into her shoulder and under her chin about half-way. The swelling is firm and seems to be filled with a substance. There appears to be some fluid(infection/pus??) in her fur under her lower "lip" under her chin. Swelling seems to be a little more pliable today than yesterday but still as large or larger. She is still eating and drinking some, but sleeping 98% of the time, which is a lot for her. Her eyes are still shining but shows pain at times. I noticed this swelling Tues 4-18-06 a.m. It is not a food-packed pouch & the town vet serves only large animals. Could this be some food that has been trapped and fermented, thus causing infection? Should I attempt to lance it in some way? I'm desperate here. I hope you can help. She is such a sweet little animal & my little granddaughter loves her deeply. Thank you so much for your time and knowledge. Jo
