I have a 9 yr old Newfoundland and was told he has the sperm count of a 2 yr old male, but the sperm dies after just a few hours. Would it be possible to do a surgical insemination to insure pregnancy? How long does the sperm need to live?
Thank you, Diane

Hi,

Yes this is a fairly common procedure that your vet can set up.

I am going to include a link about artificial insemination so you can know what is involved.

Hi,

The vet will bring both dogs into the office remove the sperm from the male and go straight to the female for insemination which in normal circumstances is fairly quick lessthen 5-10 mintes. Once inseminated the sperm would need to last on average less then a hour.
