Our miniature dachsund reently went to a new vet for the first time in her 7 years. We recently noticed an eliptical shaped hair loss on her right rear quarter area. This was shaped like a football and is about 2" long and 1" wide. Her hair seems to have all fallen out in this area.   Our vet thinks it is from her latest rabies shot she had about two months prior. Can anybody here direct me to a site that I can read more about this and it seems the hair is not growing back? Will it. It doesn't seem to be spreading and her skin seems fine other than being a tad bit dry.

Optional Information:
Age: 7; Female; Breed: dachsund

was the rabies injection given in this area?

Is she scratching or biting the site?

Is that the ONLY place she is loosing her hair?

Yeas she was given the rabies shot in that area. She has not signs if any discomfort and does not scratch or lick the area and this is the only spot she has lost her hair.

Innoculations have been known to cause hairloss at the injection site. It should grow back but it will take some time to do so. I am posting a site for you to read regarding hair loss in dogs. It covers reasons other than due to injections so read it thoroughly. You can put some bag balm (you can buy it at your local drug store) to keep the area moisturized and speed the growing in of the hair. Hope this helps
