Hello, I have a 6 year old female toy poodle. For about three weeks now she has been just shaking and trembling and licking at her vulva. Could she have cancer or some brain disease. She has not had any sory of injury. I just don't know why she shakes and pants and licks all the time. She still has a great appetite and normal stools. Please tell me what you think it might be.
Thanks,
Diane McCann

She may have an urinary tract infection. Has she been spayed? If not, i could even be a uterine infection. The trembling can be a sign of pain. You need to have a vet take a look at her and run an urinalysis to rule this out.

She has not been spayed. She has not had puppies for about 3 years and was not recently in "heat" Can it still be an infection if she has NO fever?
I may have to schedule a vist to the vet's office for her unless we can figure out that it might be something else.
Thanks,
Diane

Yes it could be an infection without a fever. Urinary tract infections don't generally cause fevers although they can. Is she having any discharge or odor? If so, she needs to see a vet asap as it could be pyometra which can be deadly if left untreated. It could be allergies but this is not the usual place to lick and just lick there for allergies.

There is no discharge or odor. She doesn't seem to have any problems urinating or anything like that. She just shakes and pants and licks. I guess I have no choice but to make an appointment with the vet tomorrow.
I had a poodle with pyometra before and this is not anything like that, so I guess all that's left is maybe her kidneys.
Thanks for trying to help me.

Shaking and panting can be a sign of pain. Licking is generally some sort of discomfort or itching so something is going on. Is she possibly trying to lick her anal sacs? A vet check is going to be your best bet. I would love to know the diagnosis. If I were helpful please remember to click the green accept button.
