We are thinking about adopting a 21/2 year-old golden retriever from a reputable breeder. She is up for adoption because she has mild hip dysplasia (30%) and can't be bred. Can one predict what the outcome will be a dog with this diagnosis?

Its likely she will have arthritis as she ages and may need pain or arthritis meds as she gets older. If the hips deteriorate badly she may need hip surgery which is not cheap.
I would suggest asking for your vet to review the x-rays and counsel you on whether or not this is a good choice for your particular home.
You will have to make sure to keep her lean and properly exercised to keep muscle tone up and not overburden the joints with excess weight.
Hope this helps you!
