We have a male boxer that turned 4 years old last December. Since last November, he has been ill - loss of appetite, weight loss, fatigue, sleeping a lot, fever, lack of interest in his favorite things - and in January, we had him checked. The x-rays showed fluid in his lungs and enlarged kidneys. He was put on several antibiotics which he continues to take now and he still have a great deal of blood in his urine. An x-ray last week showed an additional swelling of one kidney and the other could not be fully defined on the x-ray. A new kidney profile showed he has no increase in calcium levels. The vet has now suggested an ultrasound biopsy to rule out kidney cancer which she says from his symptoms is a high possibility. The only thing abormal about him is that he has been on a low dose of prednesone since he was about a year old because he developed a skin allergy and we could not detect what he was allergic to. Do you have anything you could suggest for us to do in lieu of a very expensive biopsy? If he does have cancer of the kidneys, why would his calcium levels be okay? Could it be his bladder? Thanks for anything you can add.
