Question

my 14 year old terrier mix is suddenly acting like ...

my 14 year old terrier mix is suddenly acting like he's having an asthma attack. About every 2-3 minutes he starts shaking and gasping for air. please help

It might be a trachea issue

or it could be an upper respiratory infection such as kennel cough.

For either you can try getting the bathroom steamy and bringing him in there to see if it helps his breathing.
You can also see if you can get him to lick on something cold (vanilla icecream - no chocolate as that is toxic to dogs, an icecube etc) to see if that helps his throat too.
Sometimes some Karo syrup or pancake syrup will help soothe the throat area too.
If he keeps it up seeing the vet is your best bet.
