My 10 year old Doberman developed diarrhea and vomiting ...

Sent to Pet Experts March 13, 2006 8:48 a.m.

My 10 year old Doberman developed diarrhea and vomiting about 18 hours ago. She now has total liquid stools that are bloody. Fresh red blood residue after eliminating. She has been going out every 2 - 3 hours. She seems alright just somewhat tired and has no other symptoms. Vomiting has been light in comparison to the diarrhea. I have taken away all food. How long should I let this run its course?

Hi Susan,
I'm not sure if this is a run it's course problem. I'd like to ask you a few questions.
What were the last foods that she ate before becoming ill (include people foods and snacks)?
Is her stomach distended at all?
Has she been attempting to vomit all all?
Was the blood always present or at the end of the 18 hour bout of diarrhea?

The last food she ate was her dog food, Iams Lamb and Rice, 4 mini frosted wheat bites and her Proin medication. I do not feel that her stomach is distended. She vomited four times during the night always after she had a bowel movement. The blood did not appear until early this morning after about 15 hours of diarrhea.
