REQUESTING NANCY HOLMES OR TAMMY FAULKNER

My new Maltese, Milo, is home now! He came home Friday night. The breeder said to give him some canned Science Diet puppy food in the AM, and then dry Science Diet puppy kibble throughout the day. She said to free feed the kibble because of the chance of hypoglycemia. He really doesn't seem like he's eating enough. He is extremely active, and his stools are pretty loose and soft. He doesn't seem to drink much water either, but he's peeing okay so I'm not as worried about that. Mainly just want to know how easy is it for him to become hypoglycemic? He has eaten about a tablespoon or two of canned food, and about MAYBE a third of a cup of kibble since he came home Friday night. It is now almost 1 PM my time on Sunday. He seems to be acting fine, a ball of energy, and sleeping okay.

Optional Information:
Age: <1; Male; Breed: Maltese

Already Tried:
encouraging him to eat, sitting with him in the kitchen, trying to hand feed him the kibble. Offered him liver treats during potty training, but he only ate one all weekend.

If he is full of energy then he is doing fine on his eating. You will see him get lethargic and out of it if he gets the low blood sugar problem.
Free feeding kibble is good. You may want to change to a better brand slowly at some point.
Science Diet isn't a very good food as its full of corn and preservatives. Bear in mind Tammy often suggest Science Diet and your dog may do fine on it - we disagree on that food :) but it like many other foods does work fine for some dogs.
The loose stool may be stress or it could be he has parasites such as coccidia or giardia.
Hopefully you have a vet appointment with your vet to check him out this week and bring a stool sample to be checked for parasites.
Hope this helps you!
