Our 1/2 Rat Terrier 1/2 Jack Russel Terrier age 9 months began submissive behavior 3 weeks ago with whining, belly crawling and urination whenever family came into the room. Her condition worsened suddenly, with neuro symptoms of staggering and neck torticullis. She progressively worsened, eventually not eating or drinking. Temperature was 104 - neuro worsened with each day. Blood work was normal, xrays appeared normal, no trauma known. IV hydration was initiated and over a week of no eating or drinking continued. Eventually, a barium GI test was performed due to gas noted on followup xrays. Remarkable recovery the next day with lessened neuro and return of appetite - continuing to improve with some minor neuro "shaking" and symptoms - we are pleased with results but more than somewhat puzzled with etiology - any ideas?
Also - if you can identify the cause(s) - is relapse likely or should we be looking for anything else to do - she is eating voraciously, manner has improved (minor whining with minimal submission postures) - we are hopeful, but puzzled.

Thanks to CockatielMama for her inquiry - Blood
panels were "complete" according to the vet - only left out that she had received pennicillin shot(s)-2-during treatment phase - only "guess" from the vet is a gastritis (? caused by eating "chewing up" a toy? - possible gastritis caused by silicone - high temperature related to infection caused a type of meningeal inflammation causing the neuro symptoms - she appears to have recovered completely (or at least is much, much better)- barium GI presumed to "calm" the gastritis enough for her to recover eating & drinking - regardless, a remarkably quick recovery (1 day post GI study) with 2 day resolution of most of the neuro issues as well. Perhaps this will help others who have this problem - hopefully, it was just an anomalous gastritis caused by chewing toys (or anything else that could have caused her gastritis) - regardless, the submissive behaviours and sequelae were the precursors to this scary incident. Thanks to all who were praying for us.
