I have a 5 yr. old Schipperkee named Holly. She had what I think was a seizure this evening. I'm not quite sure what to think of it, or even know what I am to do. She hasnt had this before, to my knowledge anyhow.I am w/ her all day, every day, and havent seen anything that said she was in distress. She eats well, excersises well, is in great health, and gets tons of love from all her family.I need to know what it is I'm sapose to do, and how I can help her if she has this happen to her again. We love her to pieces and were very torn up to see her go thru that. Of course she was very scared & shaking after she came out of it (it lasted about 1 minute). I'd greatly appreciate the advice you can give.Thank you very much!!

Nothing as of yet, this just happened. We soothed her thru it,and held her until her hind legs stopped shaking. She seems back to her peppy self now.

There are a variety of issues that can lead to a seizure. Thyroid problems, diabetes, sometimes the use of a chemical etc., or it can just happen due to hereditary issues. Liver or kidney problems can trigger issues too.
This site really covers seizures well
www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com
It goes over things that cause seizures and things that look like seizures that aren't.
You should have your vet check her out.
They can do bloodwork and check for a variety of health issues.
They may want you to wait and see if it happens again before doing any testing. Some dogs will have one odd episode and then never have another one again.
Do go through the above site so you will have a good understanding of the potential issues which will let you talk intelligently to your vet about this.
Hope this helps you!
