I have an 11 year old gelding that has some type of rash on his legs. The back legs from the hock down are bloody and raw. He seems to be rubbing on things in the corral. My corral is constructed of panels. What can I do to stop him from rubbing. I am wrapping him to keep him from rubbing his legs to the bone. I clean them with antibacterial soap and put ointment on them. What can I do??

The only other thing that you can do at home is wash the wounds well with peroxide or betadine and then apply antibiotic ointment.

If the problem is this bad, you also need to pad your stalls to keep him from rubbing the area. You can use fun noodles attached to the walls like cord wood or any other item that will remove all sharp edges.

You might also want to get a play ball or some kind of interactive toy to take his mind off the itch.

If you don't see this start to improve, a vet visit will be a must.
