Where can I find treatment suggestions for an eight year old persian that has her first onset /out break of probable FHV ? in her right eye. She has been being treated since Nov with continued and sometimes worsened symptoms. Originally was treated for conjunctivits and symtoms lessened but continued with a drainage and was referred to a specialist an now thngs have worsened. I am using lysine in her food 1 tsp per day, one drop of interferon, one drop betadine, one of idoxuridine and erthyromycin oinment 3-4 X's per day. Are there any other suggestions or meds that should be used. The conjuncvitis was treated with Bactr. oinment and then drops of tobramycin which was stopped after the above meds were prescribbed. Thank you so much. I can be reached at 706-466-1794 or by email at jde313278@aol.com
Thank you. Jackie Edenfield

It swells thicker on the lower lid and is red, looks similar to an ulcer. The drainage is thick and very yellow appearing to be like a clumpy type of an infection. I try to wipe gently and put warm compresses so she can open it. Now it is to the point that she can only open halfway at best...and the it appears that you can only see the pupil....Ear is warm and appears more tender on tha side..below on cheek sticks out size of marble. Corner apprears pink and the area that is white looks red and larger than the other eye. I may could send a pic. Yes the specialist is Dr. Dan Brodgan for eyes at Savannah Animal Eye Clinic. He has been attentive but I was just curious of other cases and treatment. Thank you for your prompt imquiry and your followup is appreciated.

Relist: No answer yet.
I evidently did not follow the directions correctly. It is somewhat confusing for the first time.

Terri,
Can you please just email with what I need to do. I may could send a picture later to you. Tybee is sleeping now and the eye has been totally closed most of the day and I hate to compress it just to open it for a pic unless it is necessary at the moment. I will do so later when I go to medicate and keep it if I need to send it to you a different time. Thank you

The fact that your cat is showing these symptoms means that she was exposed to te Herpes virus. This could have even been as a kitten. The important question is Why has it now appeared when she is now eight years old. The answer is that a stressful event has triggered it. This could have been something new in your cats life, an eye injury or a minor or serious ailment.
As your vet probably explained there is no cure for Herpes. You can only treat the symptoms and try to prevent future outbreaks.
You are already using L lysine, which can be very effective. However, your cat must also be treated with Gentamicin and antiviral drugs. Also the Enisyl-F brand of L lysine shoul be used in her case.
It is also a good idea to use holistics to boost her immune system so her own body can prevent future outbreaks. Here are some websites I think will be helpful:
Natural products:

www.Allergicpet.com

www.onlynaturalpetstore.com

www.nativeremedies.com

Herpes information:

www.thepetprofessor.com/articles/article.aspx?id=359

www.thensome.com/felineherpes.htm

www.vetinfo.com/cherpes.html

www.marvistavet.com/html/body_herpes_viral_conjunctivitis.html

I understand that using this site can be very confusing the first time. If you need any additional info or just want to communicate with me about this or any other question - just hit relist.
I will be happy to discuss this with you as much as you like or need.
I realize that you love your dear cat very much and are very concerned about her.
Any thing you need - just ask - I will be here and available to help in any way that I can.
Please let me know that you have received and read this information and if you need anything else.
Very sincerely,
Terri

Reply to Terri Riba's Post: Thank you so much. I will check out the sites and ask about the new meds. She is to go back later this week. Thank you again for your prompt response..I am wondering if maybe I shouldn't drag her back in maybe that is keeping her upset.
