ok now, I have a little 7 yr old that I took in. She had been passed around at least 5 different homes that I know of. As far as I know she has been left alone for long periods of time, given tranqs, been bonded with another bird then taken away after a year, given to another home and I took her cause she doesn't need the constant moving around. I have a 32 yr old Cockatoo who I have had since he was 1 1/2. She picks his feathers out 'he has a crew cut now' and she doesn't have many left on her either. She is eating her seeds but throwing most of them around. Always fed them people food, fruit, veggies, you name it I get and give to them but I can't get them to quit picking feathers. I use aloe, spray misting, vitamins, I don't know sometimes if I am a good mom or a bad mom. When it's warm they go for rides quite a bit. they love it outside so I get them out as much as possible. She needs more then down feathers on her, She only has a tail that is less then an inch long and only 4 flight feathers, the rest are trimmed by her. Is there anything I can do. My friends call her psycho.
Thanks,
Mary ralffie@comcast.net and do you know if there is a avian vet in Michigan? Used to take Gonzo once a yr for checkups in Brighton, MI but that vet is no longer there. I like to take them once a yr to make sure they are in good health. They are my kids.
Optional Information:
Age: 7; Female; Breed: Cockatoo's Goffin's
Already Tried:
Blair's Super Preen, vit, min, amino acids. sprinkle on seeds. Canamins-L by Canopy,1 drop daily in water. Kings Cages, Pluck no more, Homeopathic Formula, I think with side affects. they got noisy and loud, I think from the belladona-I didn't spray 3XDaily though. Should I try that? Humidifier on 24-7. TLC-24-7, unless they are to noisy and pests. Should they be put in cage at night and covered? Everyone says I spoil them too much, I don't know how to train them any other way.
