golden retriever/ear problem
Sent to Pet Experts August 01 04:51 AM

10 year old golden retriever. lumps forming in floppy part of ears. what is this? I have heard this can happen in older dogs. It is not making him sick. It just seems to annoy him. He shakes his head and rolls on his ears. What can be done for this? Something other than surgery?

He may have what is called a hematoma. Its like the ear flap is filled like a tiny ballon. You won't really see any pus because its between the layers of the skin. It basically is a seroma which looks like watery blood. Like a blood blister The vet will need to drain it. It is caused from him scratching at his ear. Its not life threatening but will be uncomfortable until you have it repaired. They may need to drain it and at that time they can clean his ears out really well. They can probably do this without having to sedate him  being that  big gold dogs are so mellow!

Good Luck and hope he feels better soon!
