My 3 1/2 month Yorkie received a vaccination

My 3 1/2 month Yorkie received a vaccination today and is in a great deal of pain. The vet said to give 1/2 pill of childrens benedryl to avoid swollen facial reaction. He weighs 3.4 pounds and is standing without movement. He only runs away if I approach him. I gave him a half of baby asprin for pain. Is this normal?? What should I expect?
