I have a 2-year old Great Dane who has been vomiting her food at least once/week for the past month or so. She is gorging water shortly after eating her five-cup/day meal. Recently, I have deprived her from drinking water immediately after eating and have allowed her to drink at least six hours afterwards. Last evening, she gorged her water again (approx 5.5 hours after eating) and threw up three times) most of her undigested food shortly after drinking. I have also attempted to keep her pretty calm after eating and drinking to further avoid this from happening. What is going on with her? And should I really be concerned of a more serious problem than I may realize? Please help...

Optional Information:
Age: 2; Female; Breed: Great Dane

Already Tried:
Offering water hours after eating; try to keep her calm after eating and drinking.

It sounds like she could be on the edge of a condition called bloat

If you do not soak her dry food before feeding it you might want to do that.
You might also want to change her food to a high quality one and split it into two meals a day not one. I say a higher quality food as often dogs are sensitive to grains like corn or wheat, or to soy in their diet and swapping to a food with minimal ingredients like California Natural (just one example of many good ones) can help a lot.
Yes you should be concerned and I'd try talking to your vet about the symptoms you see too.
Hope this helps you!

Reply to Nancy Holmes's Post: I thought bloat is usually something that happens relatively quickly and not a prolonged condition... I already soak her food for at least 10-15 minutes before feeding. Also, her dish is elevated. Both of my Danes are fed Canidae Platinum-Senior Formula, which I believed to be a good-quality brand of food. My male does not seem to be having the same issues... My female had gastroplexy (sp) surgery in March 2005. Although the vomiting started a month ago, could that procedure have something to do with her recent condition? Also, even when I was feeding her two-meals a day, she was still eating 4-5 cups at a time. I have to be very cautious about feeding my Danes brands with a high protien/fat content... Not really familiar with California Natural... Please help...
