Your vet didn't give you much to go on, except that it was possibly a complication? What kind of complication? A hematoma? A fluid build-up? A rupture? What? Those would be my concerns.
And I would seek a second opinion. Most dogs are up and about the day after the surgery, like nothing ever happened. I had my Rottweiler neutered at 6 years old and his was running around the next day.
If you get a second opinion and the vet says this is normal swelling, well it's better to over cautious when it comes to the pets we love.
I would continue to put the compresses on him if it seems to make him feel better. And I don't know if it should be drained unless we know what we are draining. What color is the fluid that is coming out? And can your dog move his bowels and urinate?
