Our 6-year-old Brittney appears healthy in every way except that the pigment on her nose is "peeling" off. She has areas where her (normally black) nose is pink and sometimes the areas look very red and irritated (almost bloody). This condition started about a year-and-a-half ago and has become increasingly worse. Any idea what this is caused from? Even our vet is unsure....

Dogs can lose the pigment in their nose from allergies, infections, and immune mediated diseases. You should have the vet examine it to see what the actual cause is.

It sounds as though Brittney has an automimmune and immune mediated skin disease called Discoid Lupus Erythematosus. This condition affects the flat area of the nose causing ulceration and depigmentation.
