Hi,

I just paid $20.00 and I wasn't satisfied with my answer. It stated if you did not accept reply to the question. Which I did and did not get a reply. The approx. time was 10mins. Total I called my bank and you alread debited my account before my reply was answered.   It states you don'd pay until you're satisfied. Money was deducted and you havent even answere my reply. I don't appreciate this, My dog is worth $20.00 I thought this was an honest operation. And I bet you won't answer this either.

I have a dog named Sandy. Within the last 2 years she has been itching. Her hind legs are red and raw and her bilateral underarms are also very raw and red. I am currently seeing a Veterinarian and also got a second opinion. They have been giving her steriods, which have been effective but as late not lasting as long. And I am leary of the long term affects that steriods can have. She also is on antibiotics and special baths once a week. I can't stand to hear her cry at times. I live in the high desert where there are no fleas.
I hope you can help.

My return answer was like no one read the first question. Can you help.

Dear Katrina,

I just read Tammy Falkner's addendum answer, and I have to agree. with her.

The only thing I might ad is that perhaps the steroids are masking some symptoms and intefereing with the antibiotics. Also, the steroids can cause a fungal infection to get worse or overgrow.

Mange, caused by microscopic mites, would result in dark skin and pus or running sores.

This leaves allergies or fungus infection.

But allergies definately have to be considered.

Talk to your vet about taking a skin scraping to rule out mange and fungal infection. If there is no mange (mites) or fungal infection, then you are left with allergies as the cause.

(yes, mites exist in high desert---it is one of the causes of a disease i used to treat in soldiers when I was in Special Forces Medicine).
