My can is Drooling and acting very strange
Sent to Pet Experts January 27 10:04 PM

My cat is drooling and sneezing and almost looks like it is gasping for breath. I live in Phx AZ and wonder if this could be valley fever. What should I do?

I just got home and saw the drooling. The sneezing has been off and on for a couple of days.

The sneezing could be an upper respiratory infection. The drooling could be a number of things from a loose tooth, nausea, ingesting something toxic, etc. My main concern is his breathing. If he is actually gasping he needs to see a vet tonight. What color are his gums? If they are blueish or purplish at all then he is not moving enough in and needs to see a vet asap. Is he eating normally? Using the litter box normally? Look in his mouth and be sure you don't see anything caught in here. Smell his breath and see if it smells unusual. Is he an inside only cat? The dust spores from Valley Fever can get inside your house. More common signs of it in pets would be limping and sores on the body. Here is a good link on it:

I think that is a great idea. Please let me know what the diagnosis is and good luck.

Reply to Joni's Post: The vet looked at him and is guessing that it is an allergic reaction to something. He is an indoor/outdoor cat and has never had any problems before.
While at the hospital he seemed to just get better all on his own. now we are back home and all of the sudden he is drooling and gasping again. His gums are pink and his breath is very stinky.
I am at a lose and do not feel very confident with the vets diagnosis.

I believe I would question it myself. That doesn't sound right. Has anything changed at your house? Did you spray any insecticide or anything? How is he this morning?

Reply to Joni's Post: We have not sprayed anything. I cannot think of any changes that would have caused something like this. This morning he is still the same, and seems to be exhausted.

I assume you went to an ER last night. Do you ave a regular vet with Sat. hours?

Reply to Joni's Post: Well here is an update. We made it through Sat. and did not go to the Vet again, I watched him and was able to get him to drink some and sleep some. Sun. morning he was tired and did not show any of the symptoms of the past day and a half. He has slept most of the day and just now started to move about and get something to eat. I think it may have been something toxic that he was able to pass through his system and fight off, but I have not been able to figure out what it was. I will watch him very closely for the next few days and if there is anything of note I will let you know. Thank you for your help. Brent
