My six year old female pug was just diagnosed with a severe case of bladder stones. Unfortunatly, I was in such shock that I did not ask how the vet would remove those stones. She is supposed to have surgery tomorrow afternoon. What is the best technique used for removing bladder stones?

This is called a Cystotomy, done under anesthesia and a midline incision is made then they isolate the urinary bladder, empty the bladder, then make an incision in the bladder to remove the stones. Then they will most likely insert a catheter to allow easy urine drainage from the bladder. They will stitch her up with one or two layer of disolveable stitches which will be the internal stitches and then outer layer is stitched or stapled with will need to be removed in 10-14 days.
