I have an 8 month old tea cup Pomeranian who is 2lbs. 13oz. In the past few weeks he has experienced pain while moving his bowels. He is on the same food, I've been to the vet twice and x-rays have been taken. Last week on Fri. he was neutered and while under they looked at his rectum and could not find anything. His appetite is fine, he's drinking plenty of water and acts fine until he poops. When pooping he cries out until he passes the poop then he's fine. I've tried laxatone to soften the stool but nothing seems to help. Can you help me?? I don't know what else to do and it breaks my heart to see him cry out when he poops.

Optional Information:
Age: <1; Male; Breed: Pomeranian

Already Tried:
xrays to see if there was blockage (negative)stool softner (laxatone) antibiotic ointment on rectum

One of the oldest and most effective remedies for this in these little dogs is canned pumpkin. Just add 1 tsp to each meal and this will add enough fiber to soften up his stool and ease the pain that comes with straining to have a bowel movement.

I hope this helps!

What made this painful pooping start? Is it very common? I've never heard of it before. He has been on Science Diet dry puppy food since I got him in July. My vet yesterday (when xrays were taken) recommended adding canned Hill's Prescription Diet W/D for fiber and mix with his dry food. If you think the canned pumpkin will work better I'll try it. My final question is... by adding fiber won't it bulk up his poop and make it bigger thus making it even more painful to poop??

I've tried laxatone to soften the stool, had xrays taken (negative). He has been on Science Diet puppy food since July and this started 2 weeks ago. He was neutered last week and while he was under his rectum was checked and they couldn't find anything. The vet told me to add Hill's Prescription Diet W/D to add fiber to his diet. Won't adding fiber bulk up his poops and make it even more painful to poop?? Do you have any other suggestions??
