I have tried everything to train my jack/russell/chihuaha mix
(3 year old male) to stop barking. The shock collar helps for
a day or two. He has a very penetrating voice, almost a shriek. My husband and I (we are retired) want to travel on
our new boat. We will be in the Netherlands, primarily. In
Holland, there are very strict barking laws. Boat people frequnetly have a dog or cat, but disturbance of the peace by dog-barking is unacceptable. Could we have our beloved Customer (name blocked for privacy) de-barked so he can with us always? We love him deeply .                                         &nb sp;

Yes there are some vets that will do this. You'll have to call around and see if you have a local one that will. The ones I worked for for over 20 years did it but the 20 years I was there we probably did one a year. Do be aware, that the vocal cords can grow back once done and you have no guarantee as to if they will or how soon if they do. The shock collar you used- did it have a higher setting that you could try?

Thank you, Joni. I do understand your answer.
I had hoped I would receive a fuller explanation,
with links and suggestions. I confess I feel
that $25 was a lot to pay for a three-sentence
reply. However, I thank you and respect your
expertise. Because I feel just as stumped as I did before, I regret that I cannot offer a bonus,
but I accept the basic charge.

Can you tell me if there are different bark collar
brands, with rated results?

I will research it some for you. I did not go into much detail as some people feel this is inhumane. I feel that in some cases it is the last resort for some people and their dogs and is better than having them euthanized. I have put this as an info. request in case another expert wants to offer you different information so it won't be an overpost on their part.
