Oliver is a 4-year old weimaraner. He underwent emergencu surgery Friday to remove a 4-inch wooden stick (from a beef terriki skewer). Apparently it had been there 2 months sitting in his stomach, but perforated the intestines 10 days ago and severe infection ensued. An ultrasound picked up the foriegn object and exploratory surgery, saved his life. He had several areas of perferation, the vet removed 6 inches of his damaged intestines and flushed the entire abdomen with antibiotics and saline, and stiched him up and we brought him home yesterday. Now he refuses to eat is drinking tons of water that semms to be staying in his abdomen. he is reluctant to pee, and when he does, just a little bit comes out. He is on batryl and ammoxicillan, vitals are normal, but I am worried that the water is not flushing through hi skidneys. I ccaled the vet and he will see him tomorrow.

After major abdominal surgery like this with severe peritonitus, is it normal to not pee an not eat?

Thank you,

Elise
