That is difficult to say. You may want to bring her to the vet to have her examined before she gets to close to her delivery date. This way if you're vet sees this as a problem for her, you may be able to plan appropriately a c-section so that nothing happens to her.

Don't wait to the last minute, get your vet involved now.

Peace,

Her mammary glands are swelling now and according to the research online, she could be 4-5 weeks pregnant at this point. So in your opinion do you think that the 2 breeds are compatible for mating? It was an accident of course. It was my sister's dog.

I have seen a dachshund give birth to puppies who dad was a sm/med beagle. She did have a difficult time. The vet said that it wasn't that a dachshund shouldn't be able to handle it, but she had a particularly small pelvic bone.

So I think that the two breeds are somewhat compatible, but it more depends on the size of your dog. Has she ever had a litter before? If not this might be a little bit of a challenge for her. Her body will probably only allow the little pups to get so big anyway. But I don't think that it would hurt to double check before delivery day. It would be so unfortunate if she went into labor in the middle of the night or when you weren't home and couldn't deliver these pups.

So I think that it is possible ... but get her a well-mother checkup to be safe.

Peace,
Christina
