Question

Pet Urinating in the House

Sent to Pet Experts January 21, 2006 11:07 a.m.

I have a 9 year old female Shih Tzu (Minnie). We moved into my finace's home in September of 05. We married in November. My wife has a 7 year old female miniature Dachsund (Sadie). MInnie has been urinating periodically since we moved here. It seems to be getting worse. I am pretty sure she is marking her territory. Minne has her own bed, the same one she had in our old house. Sadie has her's as well. Minnie comes in to our room at night and sleeps in a chair. Both dogs were in our room earlier in the evening last night on our bed for a while with us. That is not a regular occurence. This morning when I woke up I saw that Minnie urinated on the carpet in our room. She is urinating every few days.
My two step children (12 & 14)live with us. While the home is comfortable it is not mine. We will be moving in the next year or so into a house that is ours. In the mean time Minnie needs to stop marking. The carpets are getting ruined.
My two kids are grown, live close by and are close to Minnie. She doesn't see them as much as she used to. Minnie comes to work with me every day. She is warm and friendly and greets everyone. That's her domain. I don't walk her daily like I used to because she has learned to use the doggy door we have and she goes in the backyard, like Sadie does. Sadie is not walked regularly, never has been.
