my 11 year old golden retreiver threw up about 10 hairballs (all at once) what is wrong with him?

Age: 11; Male; Breed: golden retreiver

Already Tried:
Kramer is getting old, and sometimes he coughs. I think the vet said he has some throat problem. Common in some dogs. Once in a while He threw up his water, but I think he drank too fast. I suspect diabeties sometimes because his drinking seems to have increased after thanksgiving. He still comes running down the yard when I call for him to come in tha house. (full time House dog)PS He had a heatstroke in June after freaking out during a thunder storm.
