I have a 12 year old yorkshire terrier who has had trouble with colonitis and has been on medication and is now done with the meds and now has been diagnosed with protein losing enteropathy. The vet put him on Eukanuba low residue food which I have to force feed him. I am wondering if there is any other kind of food he can eat, such as real protein (chicken, eggs, etc). My vet said he could not have anything but this food but he is hungary and not eating. What can I do? I am afraid to feed him chicken, eggs or fish. Help me, I am losing weight also as he is one of my 5 babies. I rescue animals.

Optional Information:
Age: 12; Male; Breed: yorkshire terrier

Already Tried:
2 vets, antibiotics (metrodiazole), eukanuba low reside canned food and dry food

He always used to eat chicken breast and rice, but he was vomitting and had diarrhea, so they said no more because he could not digest it and also he was just diagnosed with a scrotal hernia that needs repair. Could this also be part of his problem? I will try the chicken breast and see if it helps. Thank you so very much. These guys are my family.

The scrotal hernia can cause vomiting if a piece of intestine gets into the scrotum. This can be life threatening, so it is best to get this fixed. I probably has nothing to do with the PLE, but can cause vomiting.

If the chicken breast made him vomit before, use caution if you give it to him. If it still upsets his stomach, don't feed it anymore. Make sure to boil it also--that removes much of the fat. Maybe try the low fat cottage cheese instead also.

P.S. You are doing it right!! I got all your messages. :)
