Hi,
I recently purchased a heating disc for our elderly cat..he was 16-18 yrs. old. The disc is placed in the microwave and maintains its heat for up to 12 hours. This kitty lived in our garage, since he was not trustworthy with our other cats. We placed the disc under his blankets and he loved it. Several days later, he seemed to go down hill...decreased appetite, weight loss, and increased shortness of breath on exertion..no cough. He had 2 upper respiratory infections in the past 2 years which responded well to antibiotics. He was never diagnosed with heart disease. My question is this..if he had underlying heart disease could the heating disc have caused heart failure if he did have heart disease? The disc stayed at about 115 degrees. The cat continued to eat a little if hand fed, continued to urinate but was extremely weak. We had an appointment at our vet in the morning, but the kitty died this evening. He had used the litter box, and I found him agonal in his bed. Because of his age, we had planned on doing minimal..drugs maybe, and were considering putting him to sleep...we were fairly sure he was dying.
I just need to know for my own peace of mind wjether the heat could have caused his demise if he did have undiagnosed heart problems. I would notwant to use the disc again if this could occur.
Thank you for your help..I don't want to beat myself up, but it just seems too coincidental...he was spry, and well before I started applying the heat.

It is extremely unlikely that the heat disk had anything to do with this cats death. In fact it probably helped him to live longer.
They only type of heat that is deadly is being locked an a car in summer.
Please don't beat yourself up. You did everything humanly possible to help this dear cat.He was just elderly with unresolvable health issues and it was his time to go.
Please go to www.petloss.com and read the rainbow bridge. I think it will comfort you.
You can sleep well tonight with no guilt. You did the very best that anyone could do for this dear elderly cat. And believe me, somewhere on the rainbow bridge, he knows it.
