I have a 19 year old Russian Blue male who weighed nearly 20 lbs six months ago. He has lost half his body weight since then. I have had him to the vet three times and spent nearly $800 on various tests. All negative. He has NO internal parasites according to the Vet at the animal hospital, where he was kept while being tested. He eats constantly, has clear eyes and does not appear to be in pain. He constantly begs for food. He is his usual affectionate self.   I am at my wits end. Any suggestions Customer (name blocked for privacy)

Optional Information:

Even though your cat was tested he has the CLASSIC symptoms of hyper-thyroidism. With this disorder the cat will eat and eat and still lose weight. Was a thyroid fucntion test done on him? This is a treatable condition. If your cat is otherwise healthy, he can have more good years.
If his thyroid tests normal then he is suffering from an absorbtion disorder and should be on a VERY high quality diet. No supermarket junk. Look into www.natracat.com and www.canadae.com for excellent choices.
You have obviously given him wonderful care for him to have lived his long. Now we just need to get him back on track.
