i bought a week old jack russell terrier and now the poor

I bought a 5 week old Jack Russell Terrier and now the poor little thing won't eat! I have tried regular puppy chow (hard), soft puppy chow, my own concoction of soft chow and puppy formula, and puppy formula in a bottle. He isn't interested and hasn't eatin anything! He is whiny and seems to only fall asleep when held. Is everything okay? Any suggestions? I am afraid the people I bought him from were lying and actually did NOT wean him. What is uP?
