we have a 7 yr old huskie/german shepherd. he has had severe skin problems around his back legs, around butt hole, and around his privates. Very red and he seems to bite at it. He also has some dry crusty areas around his lower jaw -on outside of mouth. The skin on his back side seems to be getting a leathery tecture but will not heal..

He has been on Ketoconazole 200 mg for 7 weeks
His blood test showed low thyroid and he is on Solozine 0.6 mg twice per day. The skin problem does not seem to be resolving itself. our vet wants us to take him to Columbus OH to a dematologist. Coby won't go in the vets office. she has come to the house once and once treated him in back of our explorer. He had ring worm over the summer, but that is gone. I put medicated powder on the red skin and seems to help him for a little while. we are beside ourself wanting to get him better. Thank you.

Optional Information:
Age: 7; Male; Breed: huskie/shepherd mixed

Already Tried:
Ketoconazole

couple questions: What kind of dog food wouldyou recommend? Also, we have him on the frontline that you put on him every 3 months. we have never seen a flea on him. Would it help to use a flea shampoo on the area affected?

He has been on an antiobiotic for about 6 weeks. Should that be continued?

Also, the benedryl won't make him too slugish?
use human benedryl???

thank you so much

after doing some reading, we think he may have an infectious dermatitis or parasite dermatitis from the ringworm that he had earlier in the summer.

Found a picture that looks like what he has around his hind quarter and around his jaw line.

if so, what treatment would you recommend. tks.

Most vets will recommend a round of antibiotics, an antifungal shampoo, Omega Three fatty acids to help heal the skin, a special low allergy diet and frontline in this situation.

Let me know if you still have questions.
