I am desperately searching for answers and suggestions regarding the treatment of my beloved Sammy. He is a (barely) two year old male cat who, at his annual exam last week was found to have jaundice, and in the results of subsequent blood tests has a failing liver. Unfortunately I cannot afford the ultrasound-guided liver biopsy that the vet is suggesting (I would spend *anything* if I had the means to!!!), so she has instead decided to agressively treat him with Clavamox, Bactrol, Actigall and a potassium supplement (she also mentioned a drug called Samia?). She is also looking into a liver-supportive diet.
I want to make sure that I am doing everything I possible can for Sammy. He is very active and does not act sick at all. He has always been on the slender side.. we adopted him in December 2004, and he was previously a stray. We've also been treating him for IBS for the past year with metronidozole.
Do you have any thoughts or suggestions regarding my vet's choice of treatment?
