i have a year old cairne terrier and for the past days he

I have a 3 year old Cairne Terrier and for the past 2 days he has been slightly limping on his front left paw. I checked the paw and i couldn't find anything wrong with it but he would whine when i moved it. Aside from taking him to the vet are there anythings I can do for him at home to treat?
