They could be fatty deposits/cysts but it is better if they have formed in different areas to have them checked out to rule out any possibility of a tumor. If these have come up at the same time and are showing no pain or discomfort then it is advised to have him examined to rule out any possibility of it being worse then benign cysts as your vet may want to do a biopsy to determine if they could be non-benign or benign.

Reply to cheryl kauffman's Post: I looked at an anatomy chart, hard areas are in the loins. They are not like a lump, but are approx. 10" x 6" and in line with body outline.
Does this help?

Yes this does help a bit more, if they are not like a lump then they are more apt to be fatty deposits then a tumor or cyst. I would still recommend that you have them checked out by your veterinarian and put some warm compresses on them to help with the hardness. Since this is a change in the body and have come up on both loins at the same time it would be best to rule out any skin infection as well.
