my sisters cat scratched my dog either in the eye or around to eye and I can not get to a vet until morning. His eye does not seem to hurt or be bothering him but it does look swollen slightly. Is there anything we can do at home to make sure his eye is ok?

There's not much that you can do at home but flush the eye with some warm saline. Then blot it dry very gently.

The vet might want to stain the eye to look for a corneal scratch so go ahead and see the vet with him tomorrow.

Let me know if you still have questions.

Can he get an infection from the cat scratch that could cause permanent damage if we wait until morning? I have tried to contact our vet but I did not get a phone call back so I decided to use this service. Our dog is like our child!

We can not tell if his eyeball is scratched because he will not hold still for us to look. His eye is open but looks swollen around the edges. Wouldn't he be keeping his eye closed if his eyeball is scratched?

Terri thank you for answering me. We are going to keep an eye on him until the vet opens and hope for the best. I think our area needs to have an animal ER. Thank you again.

Terri we just wanted you to know that Rocky is doing good. His eye was scratched but not the cornea thank goodness. Rocky is a Brussels Griffon who is way to curious and needs to stay away from kitty claws.
Thank you again for e-mailing back it was nice to be able to talk to someone when there was nothing else we could do until morning.

Thank you
Rocky & Adrienne
