Extensor Processor

I had my horse to the vet over the night, and this morning he told my husband that he had a fracture to his extensor processor, how common is this, and what are the chances that this will lame him, he limps on occasion from it, and most the time he does fine, we only do trail rides with him and the rest of our horses and the vet said this would be fine...do you agree? My concern is, Thunder our horse, and my family who might be on him if he was to fall

Optional Information:
Age: 12; Male; Breed: Tennessee Walker

Already Tried:
well, we had a vet out to our farm, and she had us wrap his leg and keep him up for 6 weeks, though she had us wrap the wrong leg
